Nitroblue Tetrazolium Dye Reduction by Neutrophils From Patients With Streptococcal Pharyngitis

During peak clinical symptoms, 17 patients with culture proven group A streptococcal pharyngitis had less than 9% NBT-positive neutrophils. The NBT test thus does not appear to be useful in differentiating streptococcal from nonstreptococcal pharyngitis.
