THE FATE OF CHILDREN SUSTAINING SEVERE HEAD TRAUMA DURING BIRTH

1 Division of Neurological Surgery, The Ohio State University School of Medicine and the Section on Pediatric Neurosurgery, The Columbus Children's Hospital, Columbus, Ohio

During a five-year period, 42 infants who sustained head trauma during the birth process were evaluated soon thereafter at Columbus Children's Hospital. Their findings are described. By information available up to 13 years later, 31% were normal and 14% mildly handicapped; 43% had died or were severely handicapped and 12% could not be located.
