Dr. Svoboda's comments are circuitous regarding the central issue of the paper, namely the striking dearth of relevant, useful information forthcoming from medical evaluation of children with reading problems. The purpose of the report was to "assess the efficiency and utility of the diagnostic procedures recommended for children who are referred for a medical evaluation because of reading problems." The population was defined and selected to represent the children usually referred for evaluation i.e., school problems centering on reading.
