Failure of the incubator-respirator has been traced primarily to the triac and mechanical deterioration of the RYl contacts. Reasons for the failures and methods for overcoming these problems are discussed. After appropriate modifications to the incubator are made, the method originally proposed by Vidyasagar and Chernick for conversion to CNP is possible. Suggestions are made to revise this system to reduce deterioration of other valuable operating components as well.
