The morning after reading Dr. T. E. Cone's article on Henoch's treatment of encopresis, (Pediatrics, 46:802, 1970), I saw a 10-year-old mildly retarded male child whose chief complaint was soiling. For the past 4 years the child had been having daily soilings following a period of several years of successful toilet training. Examination revealed an already soiled but otherwise healthy boy with normal anal sphincter and rectal examination. The child stated he just could not control himself.
