In his recent paper,1 Dr. Indyk states that a dangerous situation in newborn thermoregulation arises with the use of plexiglass oxygen hoods in infants placed under radiant heat infant warmers. One might infer from the data that a decrease in a newborn's optimal core temperature is associated with the combined use of plexiglass hoods and infant warmers.
There is an inherent problem, however, in applying purely physical data, as the author has done, to a biological system, i.e., the newborn infant.
