"Who has been sleeping" are the terminating words of the second commentary,1 which jocularly discusses several articles aimed at the clinician in the January 1971 Pediatrics. I contend that the pediatric profession has been sleeping, and within that august body, one might pick out Pediatrics as being the most profound somnambulator of all, since it is organized pediatrics' chief educational tool.
For years my pediatric colleagues have complained, but in a weak voice, about the content of Pediatrics; stating that the majority of the articles had little to do with the practical aspects of clinical child care.
