1 GUIDE–the Drug Education Program of the Juvenile Court of Prince George's County, Maryland

Thirty-five suburban youths charged with drug abuse were referred by juvenile court judges to GUIDE, an experimental program of drug education and rehabilitation staffed by volunteer physicians. The adolescents had utilized a wide range of psychoactive agents and experienced difficulties in academic and interpersonal areas. Seventeen of 35 had neuropsychiatric disorders and generally the youths lacked direction and skills to pursue goals. Interference with the developmental process of adolescence is felt to be a major detrimental effect of this pattern of multiple drug abuse.
