I note with interest the Commentary of your November issue1 with regard to the concept of failure to thrive. I think that the effort at elucidation and definition of this concept is much to be commended.
I would like, however, to underline the frequency with which this description is met in infants who are suffering from surgical conditions. Your writers (Smith and Berenberg) refer, briefly, first to infections, "then congenital malformations."
With respect, I would rephrase that as "especially congenital malformations."
