Neonatal Addiction to Methadone

In a recent effort to alert the members of our chapter to the increasing incidence of infants born manifesting withdrawal symptoms due to their mother's heroin addiction, we became aware of another area of concern. Members of our committee have seen infants with methadone withdrawal symptoms.

After reviewing the few published articles and after some direct communication with those in the field, the impression was that no symptoms occurred in the infants of mothers on methadone.
