Dr. Scanlon's observations concerning the combination of dextroamphetamine and ephedrine in a 7-year-old boy with hyperkinetic behavioral syndrome is most interesting and perhaps bears further investigation.
I am uncertain what was the effect of dextroamphetamine alone referable to the overall behavioral patterns. There are comments referable to headaches and visual phenomena, but there was no clear statement concerning the effect of this drug on hyperkinetic behavior.
In my experience with hyperkinetic children, headache is rarely mentioned as an unfavorable reaction to dextroamphetamine and for this reason I have not had the opportunity to evaluate the combination with ephedrine.
