Letter To The Editor

Edward A. Mortimer Jr. M.D.1

1 Professor and Chairman, Department of Pediatrics, University of New Mexico, School of Medicine

I think Dr. Klein has probably already answered your letter of April 6, but I shall also add a comment or two. I hope that Dr. Klein and I agree in our answers and that my comments do not serve to muddy the waters.

You are correct that most infections due to H. flu are type b. You are also correct that a proper search for H. flu in the upper respiratory tract of normal individuals, using appropriate media, yields the organism from at least half of normal children and adults, and probably even more.
