Letter To The Editor

Susie W. Fong M.D.1 and Alan J. Margolis M.D.2

1 Assistant Professor of Pediatrics and Pathology, University of California, Irvine, Irvine, California 92664
2 Associate Professor of Obstetrics and Gynecology, University of California, Irvine, Irvine, California 92664

Drs. Fong and Margolis comment as follows:

This is in regards to the letter to the Editor by Dr. J. M. Bowman, commenting on our paper, "Intra-uterine Transfusions: Fetal Outcome and Complications."1

The initial localization of the needle in the fetal abdomen was performed by the instillation of carbon dioxide but was subsequently checked by injection of radio-opaque material as described in a previous report.2

Dr. Bowman's point is well taken in regards to the use of reduced volumes of blood for improved survival after IUT.
