GENERALIZED LYMPHANGIOMA IN INFANCY WITH CHYLOTHORAX

Leonidas G. Morphis M.D.1, Edgardo L. Arcinue M.D.1, and John R. Krause M.D1

1 Departments of Pediatrics and Pathology, Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh and the School of Medicine of the University of Pittsburgh, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania

A case of generalized lymphangioma in a 9-month-old boy is described. Radioisotope studies using radioiodinated human albumin and triolein demonstrated a primary disorder in the lymphatic system. Postmortem findings revealed lymphangiomatous involvement of numerous bones, the posterior mediastinum, and the spleen, while dilated lymphatic channels were present in other viscera. The findings support the hypothesis of a generalized lymphatic abnormality.
