We read with interest the report by Dr. Baron and his colleagues1. We also have studied cytomegalovirus (CMV) infection in children. CMV isolation and complement-fixing (CF) antibody in microcephalic and normal normocephalic children are shown in Table I. The differences betwen microcephalic and normal normocephalic children are not statistically significant. CMV macroglobulin was tested by an indirect fluorescent-antibody technique2 in newborn infants, and no association was found in seven microcephalic infants including those with developmental anomalies.
