Exchange Transfusion versus Assisted Ventilation for Drug Induced Respiratory Depression

It seems indicated to join the Hall-Asnes, Lamb controversy to alert others who "read and accepted" the reply of Doctors Asnes and Lamb to Dr. Hall (Pediatrics, 44: 619, 1969). While Dr. Hall (Pediatrics, 43: 1056, 1969) might have cited more current references in defense of his position that exchange transfusion is not benign, he did write "since infants experience a 1 to 5% mortality with exchange transfusions. . . ." Doctors Asnes and Lamb misread this as "the statement that infants experience a 1 to 15% mortality with exchange transfusion. . . ."
