One hundred consecutive children with acute rheumatic fever attended a Day Hospital in the latter part of their illness. Near-normal physical activities were tolerated well by all children except three who had chronic rheumatic activity. Six other patients had clinical rebounds and three of them had to be re-hospitalized. Most patients were discharged shortly after discontinuation of therapy. The incidence of residual heart disease did not differ from that of children who had been hospitalized for the full duration of their illness in the years immediately preceding the opening of the Day Hospital.
