Ambulatory Pediatricians, Continued

Marvin J. Gersh M.D.1

1 "Ambulatory Pediatric Service" Montefiore Hospital and Medical Center 111 East 210th Street Bronx, New York 10467

I agree with Dr. Richard B. Goldbloom's comment concerning the awkwardness of the term "Ambulatory Pediatrics," which appeared in August Pediatucs. I have a proposal which I suspect would obviate this semantic difficulty.

Since it is only the relatively rare child who is admitted as an inpatient or non-ambulatory patient, I propose the term ambulatory pediatrics be dropped, and that the department be referred to simply as pediatrics. What was formerly the In-patient Service, should be referred to as Decubitus Pediatrics.
