It is hard for me to believe that Dr. Cohen1 has solved all his aspirin poisoning problems. In our practice by far the number of serious salicylate intoxications have occurred because the mother (iatrogenically or on her own) has been overdosing with aspirin for a few days or the children have eaten a good number of regular, 5 grain aspirin tablets (not candied of course) that have been carelessly left around. We are always amazed by how many distasteful things an infant will ingest.
