I was absolutely astounded by the views of Drs. Carey and Sibinga (Pediatrics, 42:106, 1968) regarding the social relationship between the pediatrician and the parents of his patients. It would seem that if a physician does not have sufficient control over his emotions to allow him to mingle socially with his patients or their parents, or if he does not have the strength to do what he knows should be done regardless of his relationship with the patient's parents, then he needs help.
