In the article of Drs. Carey and Sibinga (Pediatrics, 42:106, 1968) comment is made on the second page that psychiatric literature in general offers little pertinent material about their topic. This, in a way, is true since it has become part-and-parcel of the accepted credo of psychiatric practice that one does not get involved with one's family or friends. Such an idea relates to much earlier work in the field of psychiatry when the concept of the importance of the transference and the emotional involvement with one's patient became clear.
