The Electroencephalogram in Minimal Cerebral Dysfunction

Peggy J. Copple M.D.1

1 University of Oregon Portland, Oregon 97201

I noted with interest the article by Drs. Capute, Niedermeyer, and Richardson, "The Electroencephalogram in Children with Minimal Cerebral Dysfunction," (Pediatrics, 41:1104, 1968). However, I disagree with their conclusion, "the EEC is a valuable diagnostic tool in minimal cerebral dysfunction."

The authors rightly state that no specific findings can be expected from the EEC in large numbers of children with the minimal cerebral dysfunction syndrome, however vague and nonspecific the diagnostic criteria for this may be.
