What Is Allergy: A Guide for the Allergic Person, by Raymond T. Benack. Springfield, Illinois: Charles C Thomas, 1967, 158 pp., $6.75

Vincent J. Fontana M.D.1

1 New York, New York

Dr. Benack achieves the goal of his book by defining clearly and completely the nature of allergic diseases and by including the responsibilities of the patient in the therapeutic regimen as well as the value of currently acceptable measures in the treatment of allergies. The discussion of the emotional aspects of allergies is particularly significant. For once the emotional element is examined in proper perspective, since the patient's emotional state may intensify, aggravate, and even prolong an allergic disease.
