In Reply: Follow-up of Infectious Lymphocytosis Cases

Samuel M. Putnam M.D., Gordon T. Moore M.D., and Donald W. Mitchell M.D.

We agree with the conclusions of Dr. Oleinick and Dr. Glass. Their letter points out the problems of using a small group of patients to study questions related to an illness of low incidence, such as leukemia.

We were careful to state the limitations of our study and said that we hoped that this report would stimulate others to study this question in greater detail. As Drs. Oleinick and Glass state, more patients will need to be studied before any association of lymphocytosis and malignancy can be statistically ruled out.
