We appreciate the further attention given to the incidence of choanal stenosis by Dr. Marcus. His comments are helpful and were omitted from our discussion in the interest of space. We hesitate to attempt to perforate a membranous atresia because we never know what dangers lurk behind closed doors. Certainly, immediate diagnosis of choanal stenosis and/or atresia is of clinical assistance in excluding non-pulmonary respiratory distress, eliminating the need for many studies, and enabling therapy to be instituted immediately if indicated.
