Infancy in Uganda: Infant Care and the Growth of Love, by Mary D. Salter Ainsworth. Baltimore: The Johns Hopkins Press, 1967, 471 pp., $12.00

T. Berry Brazelton M.D.1

1 Cambridge, Massachusetts

This is a fine book which reflects a marvelous sensitivity on the part of the author to factors likely to be encountered in Uganda. It concerns an investigation of mother-infant relationships in that country by using a sample of 28 babies and 26 mothers for the first 2 years of the babie's lives. The author attempts to clarify the variables of mothering in that culture e hich she believes apply universally in the rearing of children.
