In a conversation I mentioned that I could understand why hypercalcemia had decreased in England but I was unaware of any logical explanation for why it had decreased so much in incidence in this country. In England until a few years ago almost 2,000 units of vitamin D were added to milk, whereas in this country milk allegedly contained about 400 units per reconstituted quart. Since idiopathic hypercalcemia became a recognized entity, the vitamin D content of milks in England has been decreased.
