Children's Diseases, by A. Koltypin and N. Langovoi, edited by V. Vlasov (Translated into English). Moscow: Mir Publishers, 1966, 517 pp. (about $5.00)

To my knowledge this is the first Soviet textbook of pediatrics to be translated into English; for this reason, pediatricians in this country interested in comparing Soviet pediatric practice with ours will find this well written and nicely illustrated book fascinating and yet puzzling. Puzzling because, although the publication date is 1966, much of the text will seem so dated. This may be explained by noting that the two senior authors, both of whom were great figures in Soviet pediatrics, died in the 1940's (Koltypin in 1942 and Langovoi in 1947).
