Breathholding Spells

PINCUS CATZEL M.B.

Drs. Lombroso and Lerman are to be congratulated for the light that they have shed on breathholding spells and for so clearly distinguishing the cyanotic and the pallid forms.

Tucked away amidst their learned discussion of the pathophysiology of breathholding attacks is a curious one sentence statement:

"Anemia has been discussed as contributing to breathholding spells (Holowach and Thurston) and in our experience anemic breathholders show a remarkable improvement after treatment of their anemias."
