The letter by Dr. Chase and Dr. O'Brien is welcome and interesting.
One intention of our report was to stem that trend toward treatment of all premature and full-term infants as if they had tyrosinemia, which we thought might be construed from the current interest in this condition. It was not our purpose to quell interest in finding and managing the individual infant with tyrosinemia. In fact, we emphasized "the need to ascertain the individual significance of neonatal tyrosinemia;" this includes detection and management.
