Congenital Hypothyroidism and Prolonged Neonatal Hyperbilirubinemia

A cretinous infant exhibited prolonged neonatal jaundice which subsided on thyroid replacement therapy. Accidental withdrawal of treatment with recrudescence of jaundice and a second drop in bilirubin on restoration of thyroid treatment served to document the close association of thyroid insufficiency and unconjugated hyperbilirubinemia.
