Letters to the Editor

A. FREDERICK NORTH Jr. M.D.

While I agree wholeheartedly with the general conclusions of The Committee on Fetus and Newborn regarding "Nomenclature for Duration of Gestation, Birth Weight, and Intrauterine Growth" (as reported in this issue) I am disturbed that the report uses the term "intrauterine growth" for a concept which is more accurately described as "stature at the time of birth."

In the most general sense, size at the time of birth does define a rate of growth since the time of implantation.
