A 6-year-old girl with hypertension secondary to chronic glomerulonephritis was given two infusions of methyldopa in an attempt to lower the blood pressure. A paradoxical hypertensive response occurred both times; after the second infusion seizures developed. It is felt that this untoward response indicates the need for caution when methyldopa is given intravenously.
