Twenty patients with phenothiazine toxicity admitted to the Children's Hospital Medical Center have been reviewed. In any patient presenting with bizarre neurological symptoms, phenothiazine toxicity should be borne in mind.
Diphenhydramine (Benadryl) was found to be useful in both diagnosis and treatment. The use of phenothiazines in the treatment of acute nausea and vomiting in childhood is questioned.
