1 Director, Yale Cystic Fibrosis Program, 333 Cedar Street, New Haven, Connecticut
Since developing the iontophoretic sweat test for cystic fibrosis, I have talked to a number of laboratory directors and a number of patients who have complained of burns occurring in the iontophoretic sweat test. When I have investigated the procedure causing the burns, I have usually found that steel electrodes were used. Dr. Cooke and I originally suggested that the electrodes be made of copper. I believe that this was a wise suggestion because commercial copper sheet is a good conductor and is relatively pure.
