This is written to call attention to a possible hazard from a device commonly used by parents of small children. The device is a folding accordion-type gate used by parents as a barrier (also called an "expandable gate").
The parents of a 2
-year-old tot installed such a gate in the doorway of their son's room. In attempting to climb over the gate, the child slipped and caught his neck between the topmost bars with his feet off of the floor.
