Most physicians who write about their own profession fall into one of several categories: those who deplore all change in the fabric of society and write sentimental nonsense about the good old days; those who predict doom for both themselves and their patients if present social, economic, and governmental trends continue; and, finally, those who write what are essentially psycho-political rationalizations for a form of medical practice with which they themselves are comfortable. Happily, Dr. Magraw's book, Ferment in Medicine, is none of these.
