TIME, MOTION, AND PEDIATRIC PRACTICE

RALPH A. Ross M.D.

SOME interesting observations of what the modern pediatrician does with his time appear elsewhere in this issue. We believe the results could be applied, with minor variations, to the work of almost any practitioner located in the vicinity of a university teaching center. Where large university hospital staffs are not nearby to support the men in practice, more of their time is probably spent "with children who . . . require their special talents." But even then, is the amount of time so spent as great as the pediatrician would like? And, whether a university clinic is near or not, would many practioners today be able to devote much more than the mere 15 minutes which Dr. C. "although rushed," devoted to "a child with an emotional problem?"
