Lettre to the Editor

Allan B. Coleman M.D.1

1 Chairman, Subcommittee on Accidental Poisoning

For the Academy Committee, Dr. Coleman commented as follows: Dr. Stotzer's point is well taken. Perhaps we are all guilty of becoming too familiar with hexachlorophene in soaps, deodorants, and even in at least one brand of toothpaste so as to breed carelessness. Another near fatality in the current literature (Pilapil, V. R.: Amer. J. Dis. Child., 111: 333, 1966) occurred after a dispensing error.

The wide use of this substance, particularly in the form of Phisohex, makes the paucity of seriously poisoned children a point requiring comment.
