Reflections on Practicing Pediatrics in Underdeveloped Countries:

In May 1962, Dr. Louis K. Diamond made a plea in this journal for pediatricians to become actively involved in giving their services to underdeveloped countries. To my knowledge, little response was received. Recently in a nationally distributed paramedical journal some remarks were made about the future of the pediatrician, either disgruntled because his disease-oriented residency training did not prepare him for the reality of pediatric practice, or accepting the role of URI treater and preventive medicine distributor.
