In view of the absence of reports of accidental poisoning with diphenylhydantoin in the Brazilian literature, and the unusual youth of the patient, this case is briefly presented:
An infant girl of 18 months has been effectively treated with 100 mg daily of Epelin liquid (Parke Davis, 1 ml = 25 mg diphenylhydantoin for epileptic seizures. The medicine was carelessly left where the child could reach it, and circumstances indicated that shortly after her noon meal she had opened the bottle and drunk at least 60 ml of its contents, equal to a dose of 1.5 gm of diphenylhydantoin.
