At the request of the Chief of the Division of Indian Health of the United States Public Health Service, the American Academy of Pediatrics has established a Committee on Indian Health. The purpose of this letter is to inform your readers about this Committee. Members are physicians who are informed and interested in Indian health and who live close to Indian or Alaskan native populations.

The Committee's major objectives are to provide leadership in (a) the review and development of methods and procedures that will improve pediatric services to Indians and Alaskan natives; (b) the direction or sponsorship of studies of special pediatric problems; and (c) stimulation of continuing individual and organizational interest in the Indian health program by pediatricians, particularly those in Indian country.
