Association of Medical School Pediatric Department Chairmen Recommendation on Time of Residency Appointments

At its 1965 meeting, the Association of Medical School Pediatric Department Chairmen recommended that all Chiefs of Pediatric Services offering residency appointments in the U.S.A. not require final commitment from an intern in training in the U.S.A. prior to November 15, for services beginning on the following July 1.

The purpose of the recommendation was to remove some of the time pressures placed on both interns and residency programs to make unnecessarily early decisions and commitments for this important phase of career planning.
