I was most interested in the papers published from the International Conference of Intrauterine Fetal Surgery held in Stowe, Vermont, November 9-1l, 1964 (Pediatrics 35: 813, 1965).
The current interest in this subject induced me to request publication of the following commentary: I think that intrauterine exchange transfusion, as performed by Karlis Adamsons, Jr., et at., where the femoral artery was cannulated in order that the arterial pressure should permit the withdrawal of blood, seems to be an unnecessary risk since, until birth, the mother is perfectly able to withdraw the excess of fetal bilirubin.
