RICHARD L. NAEYE M.D.1

1 Department of Pathology, College of Medicine, The University of Vermont,Burlington, Vermont Burlington, Vermont

We would like to respond to each of Dr. Gruenwald's points.

1. We have recalculated our organ data using Dr. Gruenwald's score 0 standards. This change in standards does not significantly change any of our findings.

3. Dr. Gruenwald suggests that we used organ measurements without attention to the circumstances under which they were collected. In one institution, all organ weights were recorded under the supervision of a pathologist having a special interest in such measurements.
