TRACHEOTOMY IN THE MANAGEMENT OF SEVERE BRONCHIOLITIS

During an epidemic of bronchiolitis 64 patients were admitted to Martin Army Hospital. Four moribund patients received tracheotomy as an emergency procedure. Improvement was dramatic and immediate. A theory to explain why tracheotomy is of value to patients with bronchiolitis is discussed.
