Errors in Understanding of Handicapped Children

Today pediatricians are subject to such demands that they must necessarily delegate much of the office routine to their nurses and office assistants. The necessity for close teamwork among all groups concerned with the optimum health and welfare of children is graphically illustrated by a recent experience observed in connection with an examination for a handicapped child.

Pursuant to a telephone conversation with Mary's mother, I agreed to take Mary, my deaf student, to her physician in order to keep her appointment for an ophthalmological examination.
