All Physicians share Dr. Musiker's concern for the deaths, permanent CNS damage, and pyogenic complications caused by measles each year. Unfortunately, little could be done about it up until the very recent months. Experimental vaccines have been in the process of development since 1960 but were first endorsed for general use by the Ad Hoc Advisory Committee to the Surgeon General on Measles Control on February 25, 1963. Use of the vaccine was promptly endorsed by the American Academy of Pediatrics, the American Medical Association and other public health agencies.
