Dr. Wheeler's Commentary and the paper by Sweet and Wolinsky in the June Pediatrics which stress once more the problem of pyelonephritis in infants, prompt us to report the results [See Table in source PDF] of a survey on pyelonephritis incidence among premature infants discharged from our small nursery.
Our survey involves patients who were admitted to the nursery between March, 1962, and May, 1963; during this period we discharged 43 premature infants with birth weight ranging from 1,040 to 2,500 gm. One of these died at home owing to causes unknown to us; another one was not taken for control.
