Spontaneous Closure of Ventricular Septal Defects

JOHN H. K. VOGEL M.D.1

1 Cardiovascular Laboratory, University of Colorado Medical Center, Denver, Colorado

I am writing to you in regard to an article by Dr. M. H. Agustsson entitled "Spontaneous Functional Closure of Ventricular Septal Defect in 13 Children" which appeared in Pediatrics in June, 1963 (31:958). In this article the important observation that ventricular septal defects may close is again emphasized and a number of cases are presented in support of this. However, somewhat confusing is the fact that evidence is clearly given that although the patients' clinical findings changed, the ventricular septal defects were still open in six of the patients.
